In this moment of crisis, your support couldn’t be needed more. Purchasing from us right now goes towards the continued employment of our team of 150 people here in Tanzania. We sadly don’t have a rainy day fund to help us through something like Covid-19, as we put everything we have into our team to maintain fair wages, medical insurance, pensions, monthly social workshops, and so forth. So to continue being able to do that, we really need your help.
As all of us around the world have been brushing up on our hand washing techniques, so have our team. We have ensured that all pieces are being handmade and packaged with careful sanitation to ensure your safety and the safety of our team.
Due to lockdowns around the world, delivery may be slightly delayed. We ask that you bear with us as we endeavour to get your order into your hands as quickly as possible.
We appreciate your support in this difficult time.
A single hand blown recycled glass bottle, handmade by people with disabilities in Tanzania. The bottle is wrapped with glass beads that have been handwoven by Maasai women, using thread from recycled grain sacks.
The name Orkuma refers to the 'Talking Stick', as these bottles hold the same shape as this ancient tool of communication still used today by the Maasai tribe.
Recycled glass, glass beads, thread from recycled grain sacks..
7 - 9" tall, 3" wide. Due to the handmade nature of these bottles, sizes may vary.
All of our pieces are handmade in Tanzania to order. Please understand that due to the time it takes to craft your piece and to ship from the African continent to your doorstep, it may take up to up to 4 weeks (or, in rare cases, slightly longer) for you to receive your order. We have many busy hands on deck who do their best to get your order to you as fast as possible.
ONE OF A KIND
Your chosen piece is 100% handmade by one of our 120 Maasai beaders in Tanzania, so no two pieces will ever be exactly the same. With different hands crafting each piece, we celebrate the uniqueness of the slight irregularities and differences between them, truly making them one of a kind.
By making your purchase, you have helped to provide our workers with a living wage. You have helped to provide regular social programs for our team. You have helped enable women and girls to go on to help their community.
From all of us at Sidai, ashe naleng – a big ‘thank you’ for your contribution. Together we are building a brighter future for our team and their community.
